Mormon Crickets are infrequent visitor to Fremont County

by Lars Baker

Mormon Crickets are big insects that have a reputation for destruction. Fortunately we seldom see them in large numbers. They can be seen on rangeland sites just west of Ft. Washakie and in the Owl Creek Mountains north of Pavillion every few years, but they seldom come on to crop lands like they do in the Big Horn Mountains. The USDA/APHIS monitors these hot spots every year, but we have never had a control program as they do little damage on rangeland, mostly eating weeds. Check out this link for more information.
