Prairie Dog (State designated pest)

Designated and Declared Pests

Prairie Dog

The white-tailed prairie dog is the species of prairie dog that inhabits Fremont County. Although it is a State Designated Pest, it is a native species and seldom of economic concern.

Fremont County Weed and Pest does not operate an organized control effort for the species. Occasionally, individual colonies cause damage beyond a tolerable economic threshold for a landowner. Such colonies can be controlled by trapping, shooting and toxicants. FCWP stocks baits and other controls that are for sale to landowners who wish to regulate prairie dog populations on their properties.
