Absinth wormwood is a native of Europe that was introduced in the U.S. as an ornamental and now infests dry soils, in overgrazed pasture and
rangeland, wastelands, and roadsides. 

Growth Habit: long lived perennial, grows 4 to 5 feet tall and 2 feet wide, from a fibrous root system.

Flowers: are inconspicuous, yellowish in color and arranged in spike like panicles.

Other: The pungent, acrid fragrance and the extremely bitter taste of the foliage, serve to remind that absinth is poisonous! Do not ingest any
part of this very toxic plant It is considered a poisonous plant to humans. The leaves of Absinth can be rubbed on the skin for an effective insect repellent and it’s safe to do so. Status: Category 1 Fremont County. Rare, no tolerance, with a goal of early detection and eradication. Call FCWP if you detect this species.

Control: Mechanical methods can be effective if the whole plant is removed. Tillage can prevent establishment in crop producing areas. Chemical control is effective on active growing plants at least 12 inches tall. FCWP offers free control for this species.
