Mormon Cricket (State designated pest)

Designated and Declared Pests

Mormon Cricket

  • Anabrus simplex

The Mormon cricket is actually a shieldbacked katydid and not a true cricket. A native insect of the region, it is a state designated pest in Wyoming because it can cause damage to rangeland and crops when its population reaches large outbreak proportions.

Fremont County Weed and Pest does not have a formal control program in place for the species but the district monitors its population for outbreaks with field surveys conducted every spring and would have controls available at a cost share if needed.
